Michelle Kooi joined the firm in 2017, and became a shareholder in 2019. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business/Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Additionally, she attended the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, is a Certified Yoga Teacher and Health coach and a former Certified Business Valuation Analyst.
Michelle obtained her CPA license in 2006. She has over 20 years of experience in accounting, finance, and income tax, with extensive experience working with small businesses, individuals, and not-for-profit organizations. She enjoys providing consulting and coaching services, especially with people going through life transitions. She is committed to sustainability and utilizing business as force for good.
Michelle is passionate about being involved in her community. She currently serves on the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado’s finance committee, walks dogs at the La Plata County Humane Society, and participates in group volunteer projects with the firm. She has been a Board member of KUNC Public radio (serving as Finance Committee Chair for 2 years) and Metro Volunteers, served as an advisory member of the Small Business Development Center of Northern Colorado, was on the Compass Advisory Committee for the Health District of Larimer County and a counselor for the Life Crisis Support for Crossroads Church.
Michelle values education and sharing her knowledge and experience through speaking in the community and writing. She has covered topics such as fraud prevention, starting a business, workplace wellness, small business tax and accounting, managing a real estate business, and stress management.
Outside of work, Michelle enjoys trail running, mountain biking, practicing yoga, hiking skiing, camping, cooking up delicious healthy food, and enjoying live music.
